What is Shortcut Virus?
Transferring the data from one device to another through USB, flash drive, SD Cards are the most common and easy ways. But sometimes this device create the problem to the user not because of file and easy way but due to the virus spread from the device.Some virus are easily removed using antivirus and some are not. Virus are threat to the user which reduces the performance of system by killing processes, consuming memory (ram /rom), corrupting data, encrypting data etc. Here we are talking about the shortcut virus. actually shortcut file are not virus but virus convert the file to shortcuts and make it hidden, so we called the ‘shortcuts virus’. Generally shortcut virus create the .vbs and .lnk file and make shortcut of file and folder and also pen-drive too.
How to remove shortcut virus ?
The better way to removing shortcut virus (.vbs and .lnk) file from your usb device or from computer, use Smadav Antivirus to scan the file and folder. It will automatically detect all the shortcut virus, generally which is not detect by other types of antivirus software.
You can delete .lnk and .vbs file manually from command.But it doesn’t sure that, virus will be removed.
Steps:
Step 1. Go to Start and Search for cmd, as it appears in start menu Right Click on it and Click “Run as Administrator“
Step 2. Navigate to Flash Drive by typing its letter. [ Let’s Say it is H ], to find your USB drive letter open “My Computer” and check for letter, type (H:) and hit enter.
Step 3. Type ” del *.lnk ” (without quote) in cmd window and Hit Enter on your Keyboard.
Step 4. Now type ” attrib -s -r -h *.* /s /d /l ” ( without quote ) and hit Enter .
***It will take few seconds to recover all your files, Now open your Flash Drive you will get Back all of your files.
[Any mistake in above command may cause data loss so be careful while executing del *.lnk command]
How to open/access any file or folder from flash drive which affected by shortcut virus?
Firstly, Open your flash drive and in the search bar type (.* ) . It will display all the file inside the flash drive . You can access your required file.. Enjoy 🙂 🙂
